About The Artist

  

     Born in Valencia (Venezuela) in 1988, Carmine began his musical studies at the age of seven at the Carabobo State Music Conservatory, where he studied his first years of Theory and Solfege, and finally graduated from the Private Institute of Musical Education or I.P.E.M. He studied cello with professors Luisa Fuentes, Valmore Nieves and William Molina, in the Latin-American Academy of Violoncello, and the Simon Bolivar Conservatory of Music (the institution that spawned the famous “El Sistema”). At the same time he was a member of the National Youth Orchestra and the Orchestra of Beethoven under the direction of maestro Giuseppe Sinoppoli.

     In the U.S. he has studied with Ross Harbaugh, at the University of Miami Florida, and at the same time was a member and music coach of the Gulliver Prep School String Ensemble, Orchestra and Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Ron Castonguay. Currently he studies under the direction of cellist Yehuda Hanani at the University Of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where he obtained a Bachelors of Arts in music, Masters Degree and is a candidate for a Doctorate’s degree.

     In Venezuela has performed recitals at the School of Lawyers hall of Venezuela, hall of the well known Venezuelan press El Carabobeño, the Pio Tamayo Library Hall and the Aula Magna Hall (one of the most important halls in Latin America). In the United States he has performed at Carnegie Hall, Bowdoin Music Festival the “Bach Annalia Festival” in Cincinnati, Young People’s Festival in Chatham NY and is on the artist’s roster for the Close Encounters with Music Series in Great Barrington, NY, both under the direction of Yehuda Hanani, among others.

     Carmine participated for four consecutive years in the Florida All State Orchestra, making the principal chair of the cello section. At the same time he has participated in several music competitions as a soloist and chamber player winning several recognitions and awards at a national and international level. Among them include the Coral Gables Music Club award for best instrumentalist, won the first prize of the 2005 Alhambra Music Competition, National Prize for best soloist from the FMEA (Florida Music Educators Association), the 08-09 University of Cincinnati Cello Competition and a Distinguished Award from the 2012 IBLA international competition.

     He has collaborated with recognized international artists such as Yehuda Hanani, Awadagin Pratt, Rodolfo Saglimbeni and performed as a soloist with several chamber ensembles and orchestras including the Caracas Municipal Symphony Orchestra. Recently, at the age of 22 Carmine recorded the Six Cello Suites by J.S.Bach for the label Centaur Records.
